I'm an amateur photographer with a passion for creating images that express the beauty I have found through out the world as I have experienced it. I have been pursing photography as a hobby for over 50 years and am committed to constantly learning to improve my photographic skills. I specialize in nature, landscape and travel photography but do some portraits as well. I have traveled widely all over the world and have tried to capture the culture, people, architecture and scenes that are the essence of the places I have visited.
When I went to college in 1964 I developed my first interest in photography. I had a roommate who motivated me to join the Purdue Photography Club and I learned to use a camera and more importantly how to develop my own prints in the university darkroom. That was the start of developing my creative self as expressed with both camera and post processing. My first film camera was a Baldessa (German) with fixed lens and manual controls including focus, exposure and distance. It was simple basic camera with high quality optics and took great photos when used properly. It was a great way to learn about the principles of photography since everything had to be determined and set manually and film was unforgiving with a limited number of exposures possible. After graduating from college I gravitated to SLR film cameras with interchangeable lenses as technology improved quite quickly. I bought one of the first digital cameras and my equipment has evolved with the rapidly changing technology. I have spent many hours learning post processing techniques using Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and associated plug-ins.
My wife and I live in Arizona in the winter months and in Northern Utah in the summer. I am active in several photography groups and clubs in both Arizona and Utah and pursue photo opportunities in both locations.
